Review @ Fragland

Ein spärliches Review (43%) der Return to Arms gibt es beim Fragland nachzulesen.

For the past couple of months I’ve had the privilege to test a lot of great games. Unfortunately there is a less fun part that comes along with this and it’s called: Champions: Return to Arms. This PS2 title has been lonely lately between my Xbox hits such as: Doom 3 and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. My gamestash has luckily been narrowed down to only two titles; Jade Empire for the Xbox and this piece of *self censorship*. Sometimes people have the tendency to give one more attention than the other, which is mostly not the others’ fault. I’m afraid to say but in Return to Arms it’s the other way around. My daily life is mediocre and boring as it is, I don’t need a game to remind me of that.

Review @ 3D Avenue

erstellt am 19.04.2005 um 10:54 Uhr von Pandur

Eine 75% Wertung für die Heldentaten im Everquestuniversum vergibt die 3D Avenue in ihrem Review.

It's worth noting at the outset that, rather like its predecessor, Return To Arms isn't a title for novices in this genre, as even at the easiest difficulty setting -- aptly titled "Adventurous" -- you'll be killed within seconds if you're not fluent with the combat controls, especially blocking and evading. It's a sign of how dedicated Sony thinks gamers will be that the higher and harder difficulty levels can only be unlocked once you've finished the entire game, and only then challenged by characters that have attained suitable levels and enhancements along the way.

Review @ GameBiz

Jason Eder von GameBiz hat sich den 2. Teil der Everquest Action RPG Reihe zur Brust genommen. Die Wertung seines Reviews beläuft sich auf 75%.

I strongly believe that it's safe to say that Champions: Return to Arms is extremely similar to Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, which isn't too surprising considering both games were developed by Snowblind Studios. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing considering the enjoyment the latter dished out, it does draw the potential for originality from Champions: Return to Arms and makes you wonder if effort was actually injected into the game or if code was simply copied and pasted from other obvious sources. Despite this drawback, however, the sequel to Champions of Norrath doesn't fail to deliver some incredibly fun gameplay.

Review @ Gamersmark

erstellt am 13.04.2005 um 10:29 Uhr von Pandur

Das Gamersmark Network bietet ein neues Review zu Snowblinds/Sonys Everquest Action-RPG Nachfolger.

As it should be, Return to Arms' most stand-out features are its good, solid hack-n-slash gameplay and level design. The game boasts many areas to explore and countless interesting and diverse enemies to dispose of, as well as decent visuals and an epic soundtrack. While a few fairly important flaws keep it from achieving greatness, Return to Arms is ultimately a worthy addition to the handful of games of its kind.

Review @ Gamehelper

Ein weiteres Review (9/10) der Everquest Heldensaga aus dem Hause Snowblind/Sony findet ihr beim Gamehelper.

Everything came clear to me when I finally completed the offline campaign (Firiona Vie’s campaign, that is). While at first I believed that the game saves the character individually, it is in fact the other way around. Your character is stored on the memory card, saving its progress either in the offline campaign or online game. Just a few hours ago I defeated Cazic-Thule and saw that my saved game said GAME COMPLETED. I couldn’t re-enter my offline game so I headed online, chose a game that allowed my Vah Shir Berserker (who is saved within my Game Completed file), and asked a simple question: “Can my offline character save its experience gained online?” I was answered with an annoyed “Yes you damn noobie!”

Review @ UGO

erstellt am 24.03.2005 um 10:58 Uhr von Pandur

Snowblinds EverQuest-basierendes Champions: Return to Arms wurde von UGO getestet und für gut (B+) befunden:

Last year, Snowblind Studios and Sony Online Entertainment scored a hit for the PS2 with the release of Champions of Norrath, an Everquest branded hack-and-slash RPG. It was met with both critical and commercial success, no doubt based upon the feverish popularity of the Everquest brand. A year later, the franchise returns with Champions: Return to Arms, a direct sequel to Norrath. Like the original, it's a fine hack-and-slash RPG that's both lengthy and challenging, and sports vastly improved online play. A couple of silly bugs hamper the game, but they do not ruin it. Like most hack-and-slash games, it can become repetitive, but if you're a fan of this genre, RTA is a no-brainer, and definitely one of the better action RPGs on any game console despite some notable flaws.
